Born in Alexandria in 1937, Bedros Aslanian began his studies at the age of sixteen under Professor Silvio Bicchi and graduated from the Beaux Arts d’Alexandrie in 1961. He won first prize at the Biennale des Pays Mediterranéens in both 1958 and 1960. In 1965 Aslanian moved to Montreal. He currently spends time between his residences in Montréal and Greece. His works have been exhibited across Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan.

Aslanian is a painter of enchanting individuality. His canvases are records of people and especially of places – the narrow streets of the Greek Islands, scenes of Montréal or landscapes of Québec. Thick brush strokes give dimension to the colours and create an emotional impact reminiscent of Van Gogh and Utrillo. He uses a variety of media – tempera, oil, and pastel which favour strong colouring that would do honour to Les Fauves. His work is a synthesis of Impressionism, Cubism and the Abstract.

Aslanian’s work can be found in private collections in Montréal, Athens and Paris.
